Ingredients & Formula

Our base starts with calcium carbonate, a gentle abrasive that removes surface stains without damaging enamel. We add hydrated silica for additional polishing power and glycerin to maintain the paste’s smooth texture.

The active ingredient is sodium fluoride at 0.24%, the same concentration dentists recommend for cavity prevention. Natural peppermint oil provides flavor instead of synthetic mint compounds. We skip sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), the foaming agent many brands use, because it can irritate sensitive mouths.

How to Use
Sizing & fit

How to Use

Apply a pea-sized amount to a soft-bristled toothbrush. Adults and children over 12 can use a full strip along the brush head. Brush for two minutes, covering all tooth surfaces and the gum line.

For children ages 2-6, supervise brushing and use only a pea-sized amount. Children under 2 should consult a dentist before using any fluoride toothpaste. Spit out excess paste after brushing—swallowing small amounts is normal for young children learning to brush, but the goal is to expectorate most of it.

Safety & Certifications

Nature’s Promise toothpaste meets FDA monograph standards for over-the-counter anticavity toothpaste. Our manufacturing facilities hold current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) certification and undergo annual third-party audits.

The formula is vegan—we use no animal-derived ingredients—and we never conduct or commission animal testing. Our packaging displays the Leaping Bunny certification. Parents looking for gentle household products often pair this toothpaste with our natural bar soap, since both share the same commitment to transparency in ingredient sourcing.

Finally a toothpaste my kids don’t complain about
I switched our whole family over three months ago. My daughter used to gag on the overly sweet bubble-gum brands, but she actually asks to brush now. The mint is subtle enough that she doesn’t make faces. I also like knowing exactly what’s in the tube.

Gentle on my sensitive gums
I’ve dealt with gum irritation for years, and most toothpastes made it worse. Within a week of using Nature’s Promise, the stinging stopped. My dentist even commented that my gums look healthier at my last cleaning.

Great product, wish it foamed a bit more
The cleaning power is solid—my teeth feel smooth and clean after brushing. I had to get used to the lack of foam since I’m used to that sudsy feeling. Once I adjusted my expectations, I actually prefer it. The peppermint taste is refreshing without being overpowering.

Love the ingredient transparency
I spent 20 minutes in the toothpaste aisle reading labels before finding this. Everything is listed clearly, no mystery chemicals I can’t pronounce. Works just as well as the conventional brands I used before, and I feel better about what my family is using twice a day.

No more canker sores
I used to get canker sores every few weeks. My doctor suggested trying an SLS-free toothpaste, and I haven’t had a single outbreak in the four months since switching. That alone makes it worth every penny.

Solid everyday toothpaste
Nothing flashy, just a straightforward toothpaste that does its job. My teeth feel clean, my breath stays fresh, and I’m not exposing myself to a bunch of unnecessary additives. The tube lasts about six weeks with two people brushing twice daily.

Good to know

Common Questions About Nature’s Promise Toothpaste

Yes, our formula includes 0.24% sodium fluoride, the same concentration the American Dental Association recommends for cavity prevention. We include fluoride because decades of research support its effectiveness in strengthening enamel and preventing tooth decay.

If you prefer a fluoride-free option for personal or philosophical reasons, we’re developing one for release later this year. Sign up for our newsletter to hear when it launches.

Children ages 2 and older can use Nature’s Promise toothpaste under adult supervision. Use only a pea-sized amount for kids ages 2-6, and teach them to spit out the paste rather than swallow it.

For children under 2, consult your pediatric dentist before introducing any fluoride toothpaste. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends brushing with just water or a rice-grain-sized smear of fluoride toothpaste for infants and toddlers under 2.

We formulated Nature’s Promise toothpaste without sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), the detergent that creates foam in most commercial toothpastes. Foam doesn’t actually clean your teeth—it’s purely a sensory cue that many people associate with thorough cleaning.

SLS can irritate sensitive mouths and has been linked to canker sore outbreaks in susceptible individuals. Our formula cleans just as effectively without it, using gentle abrasives like calcium carbonate and hydrated silica to remove plaque and surface stains.

Many customers with mild sensitivity report that Nature’s Promise toothpaste works well for them because it lacks harsh detergents and irritants. The formula is gentler than many conventional brands.

However, if you experience significant tooth sensitivity—pain from hot, cold, or sweet foods—consider our dedicated Sensitivity Relief formula instead. It contains potassium nitrate, which blocks pain signals from reaching the nerve inside your tooth. For persistent sensitivity, schedule an exam with your dentist to rule out underlying issues like cavities or receding gums.

Our calcium carbonate comes from limestone deposits in the United States. The peppermint oil is steam-distilled from leaves grown on certified organic farms in the Pacific Northwest. We source glycerin from sustainable palm oil suppliers audited under RSPO standards.

Hydrated silica is synthetically produced in ISO-certified facilities to ensure consistent purity. Sodium fluoride is pharmaceutical-grade material manufactured to USP specifications. We publish a detailed sourcing document on our website that breaks down the origin and processing method for every ingredient.

A 6 oz tube lasts approximately 6-8 weeks for one person brushing twice daily with a pea-sized amount. For a family of four, expect to go through a tube every 2-3 weeks depending on how much paste each person uses.

Using more than a pea-sized amount doesn’t improve cleaning effectiveness—it just means you’ll replace the tube more often. A little paste goes a long way, especially since our formula doesn’t rely on foam for the perception of thoroughness.

The tube is made from #2 HDPE plastic, which most curbside recycling programs accept. Check with your local facility—some require you to remove the cap and rinse the tube before recycling.

The cap is #5 polypropylene, which fewer programs accept. If your municipality doesn’t take #5 plastics, some specialty recycling programs like TerraCycle will accept them through mail-in options. We’re actively researching compostable tube alternatives and hope to transition within the next two years as the technology improves.
